The floor was earth, the door iron bars and the walls made of stone. Her body throbbed from prolonged torture, and her eyes stared straight ahead, not betraying her pain.

Her thoughts had long ago escaped confinement. She ran through thick woods again, hair flying, arms marked only by the blue dye so artfully applied. When death came for her body, her spirit would already be free.

The clang of his sword brought her mind back to her cage. Eyes green as the forest, arms stronger than fear, against his chest she felt his heart beating a cadence of hope.
